When it comes to dance hair for recitals, exams, and competitions a dance parent cannot be without a bottle of hairspray. Hairspray keeps those wispy ends stuck in place, helps buns from falling out, and can even help to get a lipstick stain out of tights in an emergency. But is a generic bottle from the drugstore going to cut it, or should you buy a certain brand?

The best hairspray for Dance and ballet hair is Got 2b Glued, Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Spray, Ion Finishing Spray, Big Sexy Hair Spray & Stay and Garnier Curl & Shape Spray Gel.

Now I know having used hairspray since I was a dancer that there are actually a lot of different types to choose from extra hold, extra bounce, conditioning, and more so it can be hard to find the perfect bottle for your needs.

The Top 5 Hairsprays for Dancers

The following are the top five brands of hairspray that dance parents swear by to keep their kid’s hair up, in place, and not moving whilst on stage.

1. Got 2b Glued

Got 2B Glued is a product many dance parents swear by because of the way it sets the hair in place. But there are a handful whoe haven’t quite had the same results.

This is because once this stuff has dried, if you try to brush it out the product can flake or turn the hair white – like most strong hold hairspray will eventually.

So if your dancer has lost of hair changes over a day this stuff may not be for you, however, if they need one hairstyle for 24hours, then this hairspray is perfect for the job!

2. Aussie Instant Freeze

Aussie Instant Freeze is a product I have recommended on the website previously, and this stuff lives up to its name!

Not only is this product budget-friendly but it will keep your dancers hair in place all day just like it promises!

3. Ion Finishing Spray by

There are also going to be times when you want a stronghold in your dancer’s hair, but not so strong you can’t brush it from being in a tightly pulled back ponytail for their jazz routine into a flowing half up and down hairdo for their lyrical or neo-classical routine.

This Ion Finishing Spray has been tested by many a dance parent who are happy to say it has not flaked on them or caused them issues when going from hair style to hair style.

4. Big Sexy Hair

Although not for everyone because of the name, there are many parents of dancers who say they have recently switched to this hairspray and for the extra cost it has been worth it to them!

Big Sexy Hair Spray and Stay is for all hair types and fights against humidity as well.

5. Garnier Fructis Style Curl Shape Defining Spray Gel

Generally, when doing hair for stage, a dance parent will use a gel first before setting it with hairspray, but this product brings you the best of both worlds!

I have heard that this stuff works wonders on kids with even the curliest of hair to keep it slicked back, as well as on dance kids with super fine hair!

Seems the combination of gel and hairspray in this product helps it to work on a variety of hair types making it a favorite with those parent’s when other traditional products aren’t doing the job!
