I admired my dance teachers so much when I was growing up and it was because of them that my love of dance bloomed! #danceparents #danceparent101 #dancemums #balletmom #dancemom #dancedad #balletlovers #conciousparenting #peacefulparenting #kidsdance #instadance #

Instagram post 2189903360155456685_9127106566 When our kids are in that I can't frame of mind sometimes it is helpful to surround them with others who will encourage them to try, others who think they can, and others who talk positively about themselves. Dance class is often an awesome place for this, especially when led by an experienced and positive teacher!
Instagram post 2188265701305909139_9127106566 I am on a train 3hrs from home whilst my mum and dad look after four kids. Two of whom have a stomach bug. One of those two is meant to be on stage with their little sister as I write this for the matinee performance of their dance recital. I had to call our teacher with less than 1hour before arrival time because she started throwing up and rolling around in pain - well that’s what I got told in the phone call from my mum. I was up with her younger brother at 3am when he started! I am sooo lucky to have such wonderful parents who practically pushed me out the door saying they could handle everything! I was floored by the sympathy I was met with by our dance teacher!! I am so grateful for all these wonderful people in my and my children’s lives!!! And I hope tonight goes well at the event for my husband which brought us away from our kids tonight. (Pic is not my daughter it’s from Canva).

Instagram post 2187478396230096379_9127106566 Is it sad that an emoji can bring me so much joy! The other day I went to reply to a comment and these ballet shoes popped up when I typed in the word ballet! I think other providers have their own versions but I have an iphone and this is Apples and it hasn't been out long!⁣

Instagram post 2186029847004999045_9127106566 I am 168cm tall, that is 5'5" basically the perfect height for ballet! Except my body wasn't perfect for ballet - I had little turn out and I had to work hard at my flexibility. Looking back, I was always the perfect height for nearly everything, I was grouped with both the tall and shorter girls. My height was never an issue. ⁣
⁣
But my eldest daughter Sydney, might be 5'9" - well that's what the maternal health nurse told us at her two year old wellness check up! So height in dance has suddenly become a topic I am really interested in.⁣
⁣
I am not going to lie, this article took days and days to research - why??? Because it is hard to find out the actual heights of many dancers today and get straight facts about what heights many companies like employing. Most artistic directors and companies do have a preference, but they want to see as many dancers as possible because they never know when that one dancer will walk in the room with that something extra that they have been looking for regardless of their height.⁣
⁣
As for my daughter, I feel pretty confident she will find work in dance in the future if that is what she wants to do, but that her journey might not look like the average dancer.... take a read of the article to find out why!⁣

Instagram post 2184829921220764746_9127106566 We literally get home from school at 3.𝟯𝟱𝗽𝗺 before a 4pm ballet lesson and my 9 year old has a quick bite to eat, before getting into her ballet uniform. I generally do her hair as she finishes her snack and then we are out the door as the studio is luckily only 5mins away. But most time we get there with only minutes to spare. I feel really bad as she doesn't get a good warm up in before class. How about you, does your kid warm up or if you are a dancer how early do you get to class so you can warm up? #danceparents #danceparent101 #dancemums #balletmom #dancemom #dancedad #balletlovers #kidsdance #instadance #
Instagram post 2182678753505917448_9127106566 I loved tap dancing growing up and I find that it is often one of those things that many young dancers and their parents choose not to do because jazz and hip hop usually win out over tap as a second lesson to accompany ballet. But I am so glad that I went to a school that did combo lessons - but for everyone else, it's never to late to learn! #danceparents #danceparent101 #dancemums #balletmom #dancemom #dancedad #balletlovers #kidsdance #instadance #

Every recital I forget to buy my daughters flowers - I have been lucky in the past few years that my parents have remembered and asked me if they should get some. I always say 'yes, of course' and it is becoming a bit of a ritual for the girls to receive them. ⁣
⁣
I rarely received anything when I was younger after a concert, and I always put it down to the fact that recital tickets are usually quite expensive in themselves and appreciated the time and effort it took for my relatives and friends to come and see me, let alone sit through the 2 hour performance for a few glimpses of me on stage.⁣
⁣
So do you need to by flowers or a gift for a dancer for their dance recital, check out the article on our blog for our answer which might surprise you considering I devoted a whole section of the article to helping you choose the perfect flowers based on them being low allegenic and the meaning behind their color!⁣
⁣
I would love to hear your thoughts on the topic in the comments below!
