That is she won’t do something if she thinks she will fail, well that and she gets anxious at the thought of performing in front of others. Last year when she was doing gymnastics she refused to do any other competition other than the in-house one. On the weekend she gave up the chance to walk onto the ground of a televised football/soccer match with the players at the start of the game. It’s just who she is. . She quit gymnastics to start ballet this year adamant she would not do the exams her new dance school ( the only one in our small town) participated in. But after a really good explanation of the process and a mock or practice exam by her teacher she did it and passed with flying colors. I remember having one pair for ages and even after rolling around a wooden floor that desperately needed to be sanded and picking out all the splinters they still held up! Just encourage them to develop a growth mindset and remind them to say I can't YET. It will all come back to them. It's a good reminder especially for older dance students that even though holidays are a good time for resting, it doesn't mean we stop doing everything all together.

Kids can get discouraged if they are finding it hard to get back into the swing of things or are unable to do things they same way they could before they went on break. Just encourage them to develop a growth mindset and remind them to say I can't YET. It will all come back to them and they will be back on the improvement roller coaster in no time!
